The National Exemplar is pleased to announce its new exhibition by Steve Di Benedetto and Terry Winters.
Terry Winters and Steve Di Benedetto make paintings about information. They paint methods of thinking. Alchemical transformation and mind-altering experiences inform their work. Morphing a wide array of sources, they push the optical properties of paint, fusing the physical act of painting with the processing and reassembling of ideas. They create a dense mapping of connections between technology and nature, activating networks of disturbed layers, and intricate patterns that merge representation and abstraction. Their paintings are investigations into the mystical and the occult, and are symbolic of transformation and constant mutation. They are able to cultivate the unexpected from one of the most familiar mediums.
Terry Winters was born in 1949 in Brooklyn,NY.
Steve Di Benedetto was born in 1958 in The Bronx,NY.
Both artists live and work in NYC.
