This event has ended.

BAM in collaboration with online auction house Paddle8 announces its ninth annual BAMart Silent Auction, this year at The Hole gallery in Manhattan, featuring works from internationally renowned and emerging artists. Co-chaired by Cindy Sherman, Beth Rudin DeWoody and Kathy Grayson, this 11-day event begins April 17 at Paddle8.com/auctions/bam, and will on view at the gallery from April 23-28, Tuesday-Sunday, 12-7pm. Proceeds from the auction benefit BAM and its programs.

For the first time, a physical exhibition of the works will be mounted in a gallery, opening at The Hole the evening of April 23, and closing on April 28, for which ABSOLUT has commissioned Brooklyn-based artist Julia Chiang to create a site-specific, artist-designed bar, as part of its ongoing program of artist collaborations. The project will resemble her painting Hot Times – 2013, the lot by the artist donated to the auction. The functioning bar installation will be composed of beehives, recalling those the artist painted for the Brooklyn Grange Bees, New York City's largest commercial apiary located within the Brooklyn Navy Yard and associated with Brooklyn Grange, the world's largest rooftop soil farm. Following the event, the hives will revert to their original function as painted, well-maintained hives to be used for decades to come.

This year, a portion of the proceeds will go to NYFA’s Emergency Relief Fund which assists artists with damages and losses as a result of Hurricane Sandy. The Andy Warhol Foundation, Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, and Lambert Foundation (a project of the Tides Center) established the Emergency Relief Fund which is administered by NYFA.
Also for the first time, Paddle8, which is known for its advanced technological platform that simplifies the sale and acquisition of art and collectibles, will debut a new set of tools with the upcoming BAMart sale that enhance and streamline the in-person auction experience. Bidders on Paddle8.com will be able to bid simultaneously as guests physically present at the final auction event—which, for BAMart, will take place 3-6pm on April 28 at The Hole, during the closing reception. Other new features include a registration tool for event organizers that assigns paddle numbers to auction attendees; a beautiful new iPad app for bidding in real time at the event; and a tool for processing transactions and shipping services immediately upon the close of the silent auction.

About BAMart:
BAM and the contemporary visual arts have a long-standing connection. From its inception in 1983, the Next Wave Festival has commissioned work by renowned visual artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Susan Rothenberg, and Willem de Kooning. Today, in conjunction with BAM’s celebrated Next Wave Festival each fall, BAMart presents Next Wave Art—curated exhibitions of work by emerging and Brooklyn-based artists on view throughout the BAM facilities and presented free of charge.
Over the years, BAM has accrued a sizable and noteworthy collection of artworks and has commissioned projects such as BAMart’s Print Portfolios, Photography Portfolios, and other special collections. BAM’s collection includes works in many different media, spanning decades, including prints by Louise Bourgeois and Jim Dine, photography by Thomas Struth and Vanessa Beecroft, and paintings by Francesco Clemente, among others. When a special exhibition is not taking place, BAM’s Diker Gallery Café and Leonard Natman Room become showcases for works from BAM’s collection, ensuring that BAM has year-round exhibitions of visual arts. BAMart also oversees BAMart: Outdoors, an initiative aimed at enlivening the BAM Cultural District and its surrounding communities through the commission of exterior artworks from emerging and established artists.

About ABSOLUT’s art initiatives:
This creative collaboration follows Absolut's pioneering sprit as the first brand to forge genuine ties between art and artists, an initiative which has prevailed in the art world since 1985, when Andy Warhol was invited to create the first in a series of iconic advertisements inspired by the Absolut bottle. To date, the brand has collaborated with over 500 artists on more than 800 commissioned projects and continues to develop international art initiatives through its Absolut Art Bureau programming -- presenting two upcoming art bar installations, for the first time during Art Basel in Hong Kong in May, with US-born, Hong-Kong-based artist Adrian Wong titled Wun Dun, followed by a collaboration with Mickalene Thomas at Art Basel in June.
