Sabine Boehl, F.P. Boué and Sebastian Freytag Exhibition
Cindy Rucker Gallery
This event has ended.
Cindy Rucker Gallery presents new works by German artists curated by Markus Winter, formerly of Galerie Markus Winter in Berlin. The show confronts two artists concerned with the reception of architecture and public space, F.P. Boué and Sebastian Freytag, with Sabine Boehl who references an extensive range of cultural traditions in her practice.
F.P. Boué builds installations from two and three-dimensional elements selected from found and readily available materials. His approach relies as much on chance as on planning; it is focussed on the underlying structures and historical precedents of modern architectural and urban environments.
With a similar conceptual strategy, Sebastian Freytag addresses questions of mechanical reproduction and endless repetition in his offset-printed wallpapers which depict architectural details from different eras. He juxtaposes these all-over backgrounds with compact, icon-like images and text used as a visual medium.
By sewing thousand of glass beads on stretched canvasses Sabine Boehl is making images that evoke the tradition of early panel painting. Her work draws on ancient mythology to critique consumer culture. The extreme richness of her textured surfaces engages the viewersʼ feelings and desires, steering their gaze towards nearly imperceptible nuances.
