This event has ended.

Magdalena Jetelova is mostly known for her works that deal with landscape and spatial installations and for her innovative use of new technologies including the laser beam. Her exceptional work is themed around historical, cultural and ecological questions, which we are able to discover, or re-discover in her work, often through the mystification and confusion of our mind and senses. After a series of awards and exhibitions around the world, Jetelova comes to the Czech Center New York to present her two works – (Des)Orientation? and The Iceland Project – in the solo exhibition called Multiplication of Horizons.

(Des)Orientation? is a spatial installation of a large size mirrored panel with a sensor that reacts and vibrates to noises, creating a disorientation of the surroundings and the dissolution of reality. Thanks to this, the installation opens questions about our history or our future, as well as questions about developing a better understanding of our own place in this world. Jetelova thus gives us the opportunity to look inside our souls.

The second part of Jetelova’s exhibition then gives us a chance to look inside the Earth. The Iceland Project from 1992 presents a line of light crossing Iceland that reveals evidence of the geological divide between Europe and America. Even though the Mid-Atlantic Ridge iss over 9,000 miles long, the ridge is visible only in the north of Iceland in a cleft called Ingvellir. By using a laser beam, Jetelova discovers this cleft and gives us an opportunity to see evidence of the ongoing changes of the Earth.
