EVERGREEN marks Robert Davis solo debut in New York. Last March, he exhibited paintings for the first time in Turin, Italy at Luce Gallery with WINE, CIGARETTES, SONGS AND SUCH and then again at NADA New York this past May. Davis was also included in recent group shows at Brand New Gallery in Milan alongside Oscar Tuazon, David Ostrowski and Virginia Overton as well as this summer here in New York at Loretta Howard Gallery with N. Dash, Helen Frankenthaler and Franz Kline. His enigmatic approach to materials (bleach, bourbon, coffee, red wine, burlap) echo Ed Ruscha’s fascination with painting alternatives while stylistically he runs closer to that of the Arte Informale movement which stressed individual freedom over conservatism.
