The paintings in the exhibit have all been completed in the past year and represent a new direction of figure paintings that the artist is pursuing. Largely viewed from above, they feature public spaces and the crowds that inhabit them. Whether along a river or a large plaza, the figures’ gestures and resulting spaces are pondered and invented through the process of the painting. Along with large scale works are small paintings of figure groupings, such as two boys swimming or two women looking across the East River to Manhattan, that represent the more intimate “found” subjects that complement the larger scenes.
