This event has ended.

Curated by Patterson Sims, this exhibition comprises Ehni’s marble, alabaster and resin sculptures, next to her drawings that illustrate the artist’s creative process. Ehni’s work is influenced by architecture as well as the Peruvian landscape, in particular the Panamerican Highway, the Andes and the deserts around Paracas. Her constant search for a sense of unity in form conveys calmness and the meditative nature of the craft.

Her series of alabaster sculptures titled “Panamerican Highway” make reference to specific Kilometers in the longest motorway in the world. Thinking about the dramatic changes in the landscape and the idea of measuring the distance to and from a point - she “positions herself” in this route. She recalls “When I was growing up there were stones on the side of the road with the kilometer numbers painted by hand on the stones, they marked the distance from the capital. I liked the combination of specific information and the varying, random rocks.”

Alicia Ehni was born in Lima, Peru. She studied art at Universidad Católica del Peru and at Pratt Institute Brooklyn, NY. She has been living and working in NY since 1998 and collaborating with Frederico Seve Gallery since 2008. This is Ehni’s first solo show in NY.
