This event has ended.

“Each of my photographs is a memory for me,” says Stephen Tobin, also known as “The Wandering Photographer.” Whilst this is undoubtedly, poignantly true, there is also more going on. Every picture is a personal statement, a record of how a landscape, animal or person affected the artist. Having grown up in rural Canada, Tobin shows a special affinity with nature. His images are sensitive to the textures and colors of plants, skillfully displaying the delicacy of a flower as well as the roughness of tree bark. He is adept at photographing both people and animals, creating a sense of drama and making the personalities of his subjects come across vividly.
Tobin’s polished technique gives his work a natural sophistication. His handling of focus and exposure lets him subtly direct the viewer’s eye to the central point in an image, making a leaf or blossom emerge from its background. But it is his openness to the world around him that truly makes his photographs distinctive. “The desired destination is never where the best photographs are,” he says. “I always find them somewhere along the way.”
