This event has ended.

The gallery, representing artists with mental illness, presents "In the Black." This group exhibition, spotlighting artists’ use of Black in their work, was curated by David Manilow.

“Technically, Black is the color that does not emit or reflect light in any part of the visible spectrum, but this description conveys none of its range,” said Manilow, a painter and a member of OWS Screen Printing Guild who lives and works in Long Island City and has previously curated two Fountain Gallery exhibitions. "Symbolically, perhaps no color evokes more loaded associations," continued Manilow. "In drawing, an illusion of form may be created through modeling black. But Black may also consume, eclipse or flatten. In this exhibition, the artists of Fountain Gallery evidence a dynamic range of expression in their use of Black.”

"In the Black" showcases nearly 40 works in mediums ranging from acrylic, oil and watercolor paintings and mixed media works to digital photographs and video.
