FERNE JACOBS
Ferne Jacobs has had an extraordinary career and long relationship with the Nancy Margolis Gallery. An innovator in the fiber arts field, Jacobs is known for her unique three-dimensional sculptures constructed with a simple traditional weaving technique, waxed linen thread wrapped around a cord. These multiple colored coils, attach row upon row, undulating in and out into amazing idiosyncratic surfaces and forms. Jacobs works intuitively, without plan, exchanging certainty for risk, and surprise, allowing the final outcome to mutate in the most unexpected way. Jacobs’ work inspired a line of clothing designed by Calvin Klein’s label in 2010. The undulating motion in Jacobs’ work is recognizable in these Klein designs.

EVA HILD
Nancy Margolis Gallery is pleased to announce the showing of Swedish artist Eva Hild’s Alum2, an outdoor sculpture.
Hild, known for her white and dark ethereal flowing ceramic forms, has ventured to another material and process. Hild’s new sculpture is made of aluminum in editions of three and may be installed outdoors. It is similar in design to her elegant white and dark sculpture, however the process is quite different. Hild builds the initial model for the sculpture, and the skilled technicians at the foundry prepare the mold from the model. After the casting is completed it is coated with a sealer to protect the surface from erosion. Hild also has made large scale public sculptures installed in Boras, Sweden where she lives and works, and in other locations in Sweden.

JACOB OUILLETTE
Nancy Margolis Gallery is pleased to announce Jacob Ouillette’s show at the Nancy Margolis Gallery. Ouillette paints patterns of brilliant to muted hues creating canvases of dazzling color and form. The colors, freely applied are not pre-planned, but chosen as he paints. Formatting the paintings into grids of modulating colors the artist uses brushes 2” to 12” in width. In spite of the tight grid formation the paintings have a spontaneity, effectively parlaying them into vibrating motion, color and form. Ouillette looks to modern art, abstraction, minimalism, and impressionism to inform his work.
