This event has ended.

Over 1000 works of art in all media will be exhibited in BWAC’s unique and iconic 25,000 square foot Civil War-era warehouse gallery. Located among the historic piers of Red Hook and overlooking the Statue of Liberty and New York harbor, the chromatic backdrop for the exhibit could not be more ideal.

The first floor of the exhibit will be devoted to a special juried show of 120 works of art in all media submitted by artists from around the country. BWAC is privileged to collaborate with Brooke Kamin Rapaport as the show’s sole juror. Ms. Rapaport, an independent curator and contributing editor and writer for Sculpture magazine is also the former curator of the contemporary art department of the Brooklyn Museum. As guest curator at The Jewish Museum she presented Houdini: Art and Magic and a survey exhibition of the sculpture of Louise Nevelson.

The exhibit opens on Saturday, July 28th with an all day Meet the Artists reception, an opportunity for visitors to meet and chat with the exhibiting artists. Throughout the day, the young New York based Wayne Tucker Quintet, will be performing a variety of jazz standards as well as some of trumpet player Tucker’s original compositions. Accompanying COLOR on the second floor is an additional special exhibit, Pressing Relations, graphic works by the artists of the MFA Graduate Program in Printmaking of the Rhode Island School of Design.

Throughout its thirty year history BWAC has remained committed to its purpose of providing artists, both established and emerging, a venue to make their art available to a wide audience. This commitment to diversity and participation includes the opportunity for visitors to be part of the conversation and vote for “Best in Show,” one of several awards presented by BWAC to the exhibiting artists.

The BWAC gallery is a perfect destination for a summer weekend. It is across from the Fairway supermarket and down the block from IKEA in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, with its harbor view, trendy boutiques and restaurants galore. It is accessible by public transportation and biking is a breeze!
