poster for Derrick Adams "Deconstruction Worker"

This event has ended.

Now buildings in New York are demolished usually by Chinese and Mexican workers--- French philosophers were deconstructing contemporary thought in the 1960's, Picasso and company deconstructed African Art in 1907. Bird, Diz, Monk, Train, Ornette deconstructed swing, the blue note, the flattened fifth in the late 1940's into the 1960's. Scientists deconstructed the Atom bomb in the 1940's. Pollack and de Kooning deconstructed the visual plane. Duchamp and Hammons deconstructed the construct. MTV in the 1980's deconstructed video. Computers have made sampling music and imagery part of the deconstruct of daily life. With globalization – the internet, the iphone -culture globally is being sliced and diced rapidly daily. Dream states deconstruct ones daily experiences.

This compression of multiplicities is a sign of the X generation that Derrick Adams is part of. The struggle of the artist today is dealing with The New New versus the New Old. This readjustment of cultural symbols is the new way of thinking and very much part of Derrick's new work.

Don't miss it.

This work jumps off the wall........
