Mark A. Reigelman II "Twas the Night"

The Proposition

This event has ended.

The Proposition is pleased to host, Twas the Night, a site-specific installation by
Mark A. Reigelman II.

Hand-cut ultra black seamless paper stripes toy with traditional holiday notions of wrapping while a vibrant light display reinterprets the form, but not the function, of mistletoe.

Adhered with over 1,000 straight pins, Reigelman’s installation is tailored to respond and accent the architectural features of the space. While meticulously precise patterns dominate the overall space, op-art overtones spill onto the floor and reflect in the glass facade. The discordant figure-ground relationship of pattern and line collide when standing under the mistletoe chandelier.

In this enclave of harsh and delicate intersections, the perceptual experience is heightened by the intentional shift in rhythmic decor that basks in the glow of 28 dimly lit green incandescent bulbs.
