Louis B. James presents Nikki Katsikas’ The Old Gang, the artist’s first solo show with the gallery and her second in New York.
Katsikas’ work delivers figurative paintings that pay homage to cultural figures, TV and film iconography and the artist’s own studio inspirations. Working in a tradition that includes David Hockney and Elizabeth Peyton, Katsikas’ intimate and compact paintings detail a world of fervent fandom yet transcend the ubiquitous Internet snapshot. Devoid of cynicism, the size and detail of the work suggest affection for its subject: ongoing relationships with images lodged in the collective memory.
