This event has ended.

The Wooster Street Social Club and Anonymous Gallery present FLASH, a group exhibition offering unique opportunities for the appreciation and acquisition of art – an often exclusive and intimidating experience in the contemporary artworld. Featuring work from some of today’s leading artists such as Anthony Lister, Curtis Kulig, Dan Witz, Eric White, Greg Lamarche, Kenji Hirata, Kenzo Minami, James Jean, Logan Hicks, Nick Walker, Ron English, Shelter Serra, Tristan Eaton, the exhibition will include available original artwork as well as the opportunity to commission their images for personal tattoo’s inked by WSSC’s resident tattoo artists.

The Wooster Street Social Club is a tattoo shop, gallery space, events venue, and is also home to the reality TV show NY Ink. It is an environment where art, culture, media, commerce, and entertainment live together and can be understood as complementary rather than mutually exclusive.

Just as artists have been creating original works of art, humans have marked their bodies with tattoos for thousands of years. Both art forms – sometimes plain, sometimes elaborate, and personal – have served as amulets, status symbols, declarations of love, signs of religious and political beliefs, adornments and statements of artistic expression.

This exhibition demonstrates that art is able to resonate with a diverse audience and supports a changing cultural landscape where celebrated artists and coveted artworks can be accessible to the masses. The show represents a new departure in the relationship between art, the individual, interpretation, appreciation, and spatial context.
