This event has ended.

Intimate and focused, this new series of oils on paper and canvas departs from the broad oceanic horizons and lush forests found in Orient’s earlier works. Instead, “Reflections” examines detailed focal elements like water lilies, grasses, roots and trees reflected in the shimmering waters of Cape Cod glacial ponds and Adirondack lakes. Sometimes sunny and extroverted, other times shadowy and mysterious, the paintings’ moods vary dramatically according to subject and daylight.
Orient paints from both photograph and memory, traversing a thoughtful line between naturalism and abstraction.

“At some point I put aside what I’ m seeing and put in what I’m feeling,” Orient says. “I’m looking to express that wondrous connection to light, nature, time and place that I first saw and experienced.”
Richard Orient has exhibited throughout the United States and his work is included in many prestigious private and corporate collections. A native of Pittsburgh, PA, Orient studied at Carnegie Mellon University, receiving his degree in Fine Art Painting. Born in 1954, the artist lives and works in New York City and Amagansett, New York.
