Axelle Fine Arts celebrates Michel Delacroix’s 80th birthday in New York City with a major solo exhibition, the publication of a new book and the release of a new limited edition serigraph and a commemorative silk scarf. Michel Delacroix, renowned master of the Naïf tradition, has been working over 50 years in his signature style producing cityscapes set in the Paris of his childhood- a simpler, quieter Paris of the past. This new collection, his 17th solo exhibition, features exquisite recent paintings from sweeping skylines of the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame to snow covered romantic Parisian streets. Delacroix’s work resonates strongly because he is a painter of superb skill and infuses his work with a deep affection and understanding for his city. “I see and paint a Paris everyone wishes to recall and savor,” he says. In his newest exhibition, Michel Delacroix has certainly created a Paris to remember.

Michel Delacroix was born in Paris’ 14th District in 1933. After studying two years at the Ecole de Beaux Arts in Paris, Delacroix temporarily interrupted his formal education to explore the city. Delacroix returned to complete his studies and continued to paint, eventually developing his mastery over the Naïf style. Early on, his works became renowned for their expressive and magical depictions of Paris.

Throughout the course of his 60 year career, Delacroix has been honored with numerous awards including the Grand Prix des Amateurs d’Art, Paris, the Grand Prix de la Cote d’Azur, Cannes and the Premier Prix de Sept Collines, Roma. His work can be found in prestigious private and public collections including the Fonds National d’Art Contemporain and the Musée International d’Art Naïf, both in Paris, and in Lausanne’s Olympic Museum in Switzerland. He has executed several prestigious commissions, including those for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games, 1998 World Cup, and the White House Christmas Pageant of Peace. Delacroix has enjoyed over 300 exhibitions in the United States alone. Today Michel is a French ex-patriot living in Cambodia with his wife, Vany. He enjoys his children and grandchildren, and continues to paint, visiting his beloved Paris often. He will return to New York City in December for the opening reception of this show and to celebrate his 80th birthday with Axelle Fine Arts.
