Featuring 35 major paintings, more than 50 works on paper, and numerous sketchbooks, films, and ephemera, Toxic Beauty: The Art of Frank Moore surveys the career of a remarkable artist whose life was cut short by AIDS. In figurative paintings filled with fantastic and symbolic imagery, Frank Moore (1953–2002) addressed themes drawn from American visual culture, the state of the healthcare and farming industries, and his personal life. His paintings often explore human effects on the natural environment in, as he noted, “sites of great, but toxic, beauty.”
