This event has ended.

Bravinlee programs presents five new works on vellum by Rebecca Morales and two new large monotypes by Iva Gueorguieva.

Rebecca Morales manically realistic works, executed in painterly applied gouache on vellum continue her interest in permutations of supernatural biological and botanical forms. Viewers of Morales’ work often insist they are seeing actual strands of hair, woven yarns, and real leaf and vegetation glued to the surface of the vellum. In actuality they are intricately rendered in gouache in aggressively saturated color, hovering and undulating on the vellum like hybridized sea anemones. A new commissioned work by Rebecca Morales will be included in “Tending Toward The Untamed: Artists Respond To The Wild Garden,” a group exhibition at Wave Hill Gallery, in Bronx, NY.

Iva Gueorguieva’s new hyperactive mono-prints produced with the assistance of The Graphic Studio in Tampa, Florida fuse collage, direct gravure, cyanotype, and woodblock printing, and oil stick pushing printmaking past its usual comfort zone. Spatially mesmerizing, kinetic and gestural, her work never abandons representation entirely. Worlds are discoverable in the intersecting planes and associations of co-dependent things and actions and autobiography. Infinite yet immediate Gueorguieva’s work have elements of Cubism, Futurism, Rayonism and Abstract Expressionism. Iva Gueorguieva will have solo exhibitions in 2012 at Ameringer/McEnery/Yohe in New York and Susanne Vielmetter Projects in Los Angeles.
