"Abstraction: what is real" Exhibition
Edelman Arts
This event has ended.
Edelman Arts presents Abstraction: what is real. In the early 1940's a small group of loosely affiliated New York artists began to break away from tradition. What began as informal experiments with material, subject and technique turned suddenly into the ground-breaking monument to directness, immediacy and force known as Abstract Expressionism. Since Pollock's caligraphic frenzies, Rothko's contemplative color fields, and de Kooning's feminine distortions, abstract art has become the standard of contemporary art. But what is the current state of contemporary art and what constitutes true abstraction? We ask: what is real?
