Brenda Giegerich & Kaethe Kauffman Exhibition
Kathleen Cullen Fine Arts
This event has ended.
This series of paintings starts with a visual idea, something inspired either by nature or from other works of art, or even a suggestion from the imagination. Most often it is a combination of shapes or colors, intimations about space and movement, which elicit a certain feeling. The final outcome contains an element of surprise-there is a strong sense of improvisation and the free-flowing process of being in the moment.
Kauffman’s work can be seen as a singularly Crafted semiotics, the study of signs and symbols, and of how meaning is constructed and understood. Heretofore, the human body was considered an embodiment of signs, but with virtual realities, artificial life, and simulated bodies, the disembodiment of these signs is garnering prominence within the field. Kaethe Kauffman’s notable works stand on the cusp of this transition.
