This event has ended.

Artists Venetia Dale and Kristi Sword investigate the commonality of things through the repetition of dots, lines, forms and fragments in the exhibition Ball chain, shower caddies and other observed lines. Highlighting ordinary material and form sourced from rituals, habits and tasks exercised in daily life, this exhibition of drawing and sculpture merges Dale’s interest in the likeness and utility of objects with Sword’s meditations on accumulation.

About Venetia Dale:

Venetia Dale utilizes techniques and processes of metalsmithing and object making to address issues of production, labor, heritage, and representation. Travels in South America, China, Southeast Asia, and West Africa have influenced the perspective from which she studies and responds to the circulation of goods between people and place. Through the use, translation, and interpretation of familiar objects Dale’s work attempts to articulate the space between what is lost and re-invented in the evaluation and transformation of our material world. Dale was born and raised in the Midwest, received her BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2004 and MFA from State University of New York at New Paltz in 2009. Dale currently maintains her studio practice in Boston, MA.

About Kristi Sword:

Kristi Sword was born to hard working American laborers in Iowa. Now she is an artist residing in Brooklyn using her hands to build playful and elaborate work that explores repetition, childlike awe, and the limitations and possibilities of mass-produced products. During the process of completing a masters degree in metals and jewelry at SUNY New Paltz, Kristi began magnifying smaller details in her jewelry work to interpretations of this meticulous repetition and accurate process. The nuances of metal working and jewelry making gave way to her making her way of drawing. These drawings incorporate found dot stickers, fingerprints on white stickers, finger prints on paper and a series of sculptural objects including window screens and play-doh. Her new body of work continues to explore these and other everyday materials in larger format through intuitive and meditative process driven work that embraces mistakes and triumphs alike. Kristi has exhibited her work at 92YTribeca, Public Space One in Iowa City, Sienna Gallery, the Siamo Qui / We are Here symposium in Florence and has worked with artists Jamie Bennett and Sayumi Yokouchi.
