"Matter" Exhibition
Trestle Gallery (at Brooklyn Art Space)
This event has ended.
The exhibition “Matter” aims to create conversations in terms of the traditional and nontraditional materials used in constructing artworks.
“Matter” includes photographs of germs found on a New York subway platform and bacteria found on book pages, as well as artworks constructed from magazines, baseball cards, ballpoint pen caps, nail polish, fur, neon lights and tissue. All of the works presented transcend the materials into new lives as sculpture, collage, photography and installation. While the objects incorporated in these artworks are inextricably tied to place and time, the artists’ intentional and instinctive use of unique material creates new physical, aesthetic and symbolic meaning while maintaining uncanny embodiment of a past life.
