Krause Gallery announces Matt Colagiuri “The Boroughs”
A graduate of Yale University, Matt has honed his skills for over a decade. His elaborate and physically intense process creates an eventual outcome unlike any photograph you have ever seen. Colagiuri takes hundreds of photos, designs them on a computer grid, then begins the arduous process of cutting each individual photo to mount and encase on hundreds, even thousands of painted wood cubes. His innovative technique shakes up that equilibrium, to make people re-think their perceptions and to take them out of their comfort zone. Matt’s alternative presentation of photography on multi dimensional blocks tend to do that a bit more blatantly. Sometimes what you are looking at isn’t what you are really seeing. The simplest of acts can disguise the most complex machinations and the most beautiful of facades can cover the darkest secrets.
