Myron Hansen's recent work reflects two competing impulses in his art: a need to create with unrestrained freedom as well as a need for crisp and calculated control. His acrylic paintings are an interplay berween gesture and careful control as well as black against color. Success for him is achieving an overall tenuous balance. He begins each work by looking inward before looking out, making no reference to visual reality. He describes his creative process as being more about personal discovery than intent.
