Lucy Fradkin explores color, pattern, and diversity in her luminous acrylic gouache portraits. Lush, rich colors, intricate ornamentation, collage, and pencil blend together characteristically in her paintings. Quiet and inactive, her figures stand in well-crafted surroundings often with collaged elements from old catalogs, field guides and vintage books. In Fradkin’s domestic interiors the intimate settings convey and depict stories of daily lives. Fradkin is the 2011 recipient of the prestigious Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation Space Grant.
