The artist Nicholas Bergman has assembled 193 collage works, each being a tribute to a country. The challenge he undertook was that each work needed to be different in character from all the others, just as all countries are unique. However, the entire suite required stylistic unity.
Although the collages are abstract, each has a reference to a county’s geographic shape. There is a subtle political message being sent by the inclusion of all countries in the homage irrespective of political ideologies. Also, the size, wealth and the age of countries had no bearing on the artist’s aesthetic decisions, such as the size or colors of the collages.
