This event has ended.

Muriel Guépin Gallery announces "Repetition Delirium".

Artists commonly use the element of repetition of various elements to bring unity or rhythm to their work, but what happens when the repetition is really extreme? Why is acute repetition present in some artwork today? What are artists who use this device trying to communicate? What does it say about the world we live in?

During the Renaissance artists used the human body as a measure of scale. Today technology has changed our sense of space and scale. What can we use to construct a mental sense of scale, when the devices we use everyday, like the cell phone and Internet, create an infinite and invisible space? The scale of life today offers a new paradigm for art. There comes a point when the brain cannot comprehend the sheer number and scale of our world. We get confused, bewildered, and maybe a bit delirious.

Repetition- Delirium is a group show of artists whose work uses extraordinary repetition. While all the artists use this formal element, there is a range of subject, content and media. Some of the work induces an alternate state of mind (excitement, meditation, boredom, disorientation). Some work comments on the scale of human culture today in attempt to come to terms with the overwhelming. All of the work provides insight into the world we live in today.

The exhibition includes 9 visual artists from across the U.S., working in a range of media including video, installation, kinetic sculpture, painting and works on paper.
