This event has ended.

Schroeder Romero presents Requiem for the Immortal, Ken Weaver’s second solo exhibition with the gallery. Requiem for the Immortal chronicles the path of the artistic journey and the artist’s insatiable desire for the creative eternal. Based on the classic story of Faust, this pictorial opera unfolds through paintings, drawings and sculpture. The artist, through a series of self- portraits, inhabits the character of the devil’s messenger Mephistopheles, he is both tempter and guide, real and corporeal, embodying the passion and the ego of the artist himself. Weaver’s retelling is far from the traditional Faustian tale of Christian morality, rather, his Mephistopheles is the creative driving force, the one to whom the artist gladly hands his soul so that he may partake in the celebration of sensuality, creativity and hedonism.

Weaver’s body of work calls forth and inhabits the primordial creative force, with Weaver channeling Mephistopheles, the violent, artistic warrior who warns us that time is short and there is much to accomplish. Requiem for the Immortal embodies the theatricality of the baroque while utilizing contemporary heavy metal tonalities. The work is both ancient and new, real and unreal; the artist’s reminder that we were born to be creators, not spectators.

Beautiful rococco, gothic paintings and drawings. Dark but lush work. Especially loved the sculpture in this show. "Heavy Metal Angel." Recommend.
