James Fuentes announces its forthcoming solo exhibition of new works by Daniel Higgs.
Known since the early 80s as a musician and front man for post-punk bands including Reptile House and Lungfish, Daniel Higgs is a singer, songwriter, and player of the rarely mastered Jaw harp among many other instruments.
In the 80s and 90s Higgs worked as a tattoo artist in the Bay Area where he developed a distinctive style reinterpreting themes from American iconography. Largely kept out of the mainstream because of his reluctance to publish his work online, Higgs' direct approach and originality resulted in the work having a noted influence on other artists.
Currently splitting his time between Baltimore and Brooklyn, Higgs continues to produce music as well as maintains the drawing discipline that has been a consistent practice throughout his career. This exhibition will be comprised of recent works on paper and canvas that speak to an altered landscape and possess a synesthesiatic quality.
