This event has ended.

Jim Kempner Fine Art presents selected works by artist Tom Slaughter.
The exhibition will feature works by Slaughter in his signature visual language, in a variety of media, with a focus on summer fun.

Tom Slaughter’s flashe paint and cut paper collage works demonstrate a natural immediacy, inherent to the artist’s hand. The result is clean, crisp imagery, which easily translates through different media and has become a recognizable brand. Slaughter’s collages are often presented as single images, such as Gingham Shirt and Tie and Blue Flip-Flops, putting an innovative spin on day-to-day objects.

Henry Geldzahler, former curator of American Art at the MET and Commissioner of Cultural Affairs for New York City, wrote the following about the work of artist Tom Slaughter:
“ The quality of freshness, the familiar world re-seen, from the water towers of New York City to the rural pleasures of boating, is the most immediately arresting aspect of Tom Slaughter’s art…the creation over many years of an invented world. An identifiable place, that we need but glimpse to succumb to his spell.”

Slaughter also combines these iconic images into more complex collages, in work such as Map of NYC and New York Valentine (the genesis of the 20 x 200 featured print).
Tom Slaughter was born in New York City in 1955. His work has been exhibited in the United States, Europe, Japan and Canada. He has worked in collaboration with Durham Press for two decades, and his prints are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He has illustrated nine books for children—including Do You Know Which Ones Will Grow?, a 2011 Notable American Library Association book of the year. Slaughter has also designed playbills, iPhone cases, skateboard decks, wallpaper, beach towels, watches, t-shirts, and posters, including a widely distributed poster (Yes We Can) in support of Barack Obama’s political campaign. He has served as the in-house art director for the New Victory Theater for the past eight seasons and is on the board of directors at MOMA PS1.

Regardless of scale or subject, Slaughter’s imagery is accessible for collectors of any age.
Tom Slaughter currently lives and works in New York City. For more information please contact Sarah Bielicky.
