Denise Bibro Fine Art announces John Hrehov, Shades from White to Black, on view from October 11 through November 10, 2012, his sixth solo show at Denise Bibro Fine Art. Hrehov's works evoke his continued interest in the theme of man coexisting with nature. Utilizing the artist's signature labor-intensive pointillist technique, Hrehov uses shades of white, black and gray, focusing specifically on urban settings - juxtaposing patterns onto the surface to represent elements of wind, rhythm and sound.

Objects such as bats, owls, rabbits, birds and vegetation co-inhabit with cement, brick, fences and asphalt roofs. In the work Lesser, Hrehov renders undulating lines, beaming outward from what can only be a moon - cutting into radiating patterns of a downward moving bat, captured in motion with a midnight snack of a moth. In another work, Glean, Hrehov creates a landscape of contrasting geometric patterns. A field of horizontally layered pebbles and rocks extends back to a fence with vertical wooden beams, continuing toward a triangular composition of a mountainous background, leading finally up to the sky. Contrasting these more rigid compositions are two animals - bunnies - existing peaceful in the foreground. Hrehov's stark palette enhances the drama of these unique forces living side by side.

Hrehov has had numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the country, including Indiana-Purdue University, Fort Wayne, IN; Wood Street Gallery, Chicago, IL; Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Fort Wayne, IN; Yvonne Rapp Gallery, Louisville, KY; Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL; and Denise Bibro Fine Art, NYC. Hrehov's awards include Gladys Emerson Cook Prize in the Area of Prints, Drawings and Pastel, 167th Annual Exhibition National Academy of Design, NYC and Eastman-Bolton Memorial Award, Cleveland Institute of Art. His work has been reviewed in Art in America, American Artist Magazine, Louisville Courier-Journal, and The Journal Gazette of Fort Wayne, IN. Hrehov holds an MFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a professor in the Department of Fine Arts at Indiana-Purdue University, Fort Wayne in northeast Indiana.
