This event has ended.

For Lee, making art is a spiritual activity occupied with time and space: “I see the present as the pivot point on which the past and future revolve, the only solid point of orientation for time. I am constantly trying to learn of my inner self, striving to exist more in the present. My ideas are clearest when I’m closest to this point of orientation. I believe it’s the only way to create an honest work of art.”

In this exhibition Lee will show mixed media works with images of objects that have a history that is compelling to him. Through these assemblages, he amplifies the objects’ essential qualities. This work deals with the creation of an inventive environment that inspires the viewer to reflect on their own experiences.
Frank Olt’s media are painting and ceramics. According to Noguchi Museum Senior Consulting Curator Ken Wayne, Frank Olt is,“a great colorist with a rare sensitivity to color and materials. His appreciation for the potential of his materials is equally exemplary. Olt has traveled extensively in Japan and Korea studying ceramics, and that exposure is felt in his own work in the delicacy of line and gentleness of effect. There is a lyrical, calligraphic feeling throughout his oeuvre. Olt’s aesthetic grew out of the New York Minimalist tradition and Asian art is an abiding passion and strong point of reference for his work.”

In this exhibition Olt will debut his new "mutli-valency" ceramic series, which represents a breakthrough in terms of both line and color. The lines in these abstract compositions swirl and undulate freely conveying great energy. The color combinations demonstrate a highly-sophisticated aesthetic sensibility. The mood the pieces create is energetic yet contemplative and highly appealing.
