This event has ended.

Taking its name from Ron Nagle's Bay Area band, which was an early part of the "San Francisco Sound" before disbanding on the eve of the Summer of Love, The Mystery Trend features five artists working across a range of media who are united by something ineffable in their work, rather than by a similar approach or style. The pieces included relate to one another transitively, through lyrical formalism as much as through a shared interest in process and finish; they are infused with exuberant combinations of grace, wit, humor and a sense of play.

John Henderson (b. 1984, Minneapolis) holds a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA in Art Theory and Practice from Northwestern University. Recent exhibitions include solo shows at T293, Naples and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. John lives and works in Chicago.

Ron Nagle (b. 1939, California) is a seminal figure in the Abstract Expressionist Ceramics movement and has been recording and producing music in San Francisco since the early 60s. A recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2012, Nagle had a retrospective exhibition at The Carnegie Museum of Art in 1993, and has been included in landmark exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the V & A Museum in London among others.

Noam Rappaport (b. 1974, Sweden) holds a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York and lives and works in Los Angeles. Recent exhibitions include B. Wurtz & Co., at Richard Telles Gallery, Los Angeles and Correspondences: Noam Rappaport and B. Wurtz, at Galerie Steinek, Vienna, both curated by Matthew Higgs, and a recent acclaimed solo exhibition at James Fuentes LLC, New York.

Ricky Swallow (b. 1974, Australia) holds a BFA from Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne and lives and works in Los Angeles. He represented Australia at the 2005 Venice Biennale and has exhibited widely, including solo exhibitions at the Kunsthalle Vienna and PS1/MoMA, New York. He will have a two-person exhibition with Lesley Vance at The Huntington Art Collection at the Huntington Gardens in the fall.
