This event has ended.

"Being Singular Plural", part of the Deutsche Bank Series at the Guggenheim, offers film, video, and interactive sound-based installations by seven of the most innovative and visionary media artists and filmmakers working in India today: Sonal Jain and Mriganka Madhukaillya of Desire Machine Collective, Shumona Goel, Shai Heredia, Vikram Joglekar, Amar Kanwar, and Kabir Mohanty. Part of the museum’s Asian art program, the exhibition expands the 2010 Deutsche Guggenheim presentation by continuing to focus on researching and coproducing new work with this community of practitioners. Philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy’s notions on filmic evidence, social interconnectedness, and ethical and political participation serve as important intellectual frames. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to experience works that have never been seen in a North American museum before, several of which are also world premiers. A round-the-clock public artwork installed outside the museum along Fifth Avenue provides an additional interactive experience long after museum hours.
