Iconic landmarks such as the Brooklyn Bridge, The Guggenheim Museum and Central Park will feature strongly in the exhibition, alongside more obscure images from New York and at home in Oxfordshire, England.

Rod says: 'The New York paintings herald the beginning of a new life. At the start of last year, following my departure from the design company I had run in England for over 30 years, I spent two wonderful months in New York. This was a totally energizing experience and in sub-zero temperatures I compiled hundreds of photographs, sketches and memories to enable me to complete finished paintings on my return to England.

‘By the end of April, I had produced a series of ink drawings and watercolours which I exhibited in my hometown of Woodstock, Oxfordshire. The exhibition was a phenomenal success and I began thinking about new paintings and where to show them.

‘Around this time, One Art Space in TriBeCa spotted my blog and made contact; they are a delightful new gallery specialising in contemporary art from around the world. This seemed like the perfect fit and we soon agreed a date in July for the exhibition.

‘I have always had a real passion for architecture and landscape and the subjects that confronted me in New York were a thrilling new challenge – the perfect contrast to the English streets and landscapes I have become associated with.

My recent work is mostly about capturing the mood rather than a purely figurative approach – storms, silence, movement - all move me and I am hugely inspired by the energy and magnificence that is New York – a truly beautiful city and I'm looking forward to returning in July for the exhibition.'

Rod Craig trained at West England College of Art. He has lived and worked as an artist and designer in Woodstock Oxfordshire for thirty years. He undertakes commissions for both private and corporate clients.
