This event has ended.

The Museum of American Illustration at the Society of Illustrators presents the 2011 Student Scholarship Competition featuring the works of over two hundred of today's top college level illustration students. For thirty years, this Competition and Exhibit has opened the door for many of today's professionals including Kadir Nelson, James Bennett, Gwenda Kaczor, Dan Dos Santos, James Jean, and many more.

A jury of professional peers including illustrators and art directors has chosen the most outstanding works created throughout the year. Pieces are accepted based on the quality of technique, concept and skill of medium used. After reviewing seven thousand submissions, only two hundred and four were selected for this year's Exhibition.

The Society of Illustrators as well as various other generous private and corporate donors will grant over $50,000 in scholarships to the best students featured in the competition. Beginning May 4 through May 27, 2011, the Museum of American Illustration will display the student's original artwork as well as publish a full color catalog. Awards and certificates will be given to the students during the Opening Reception on May 6, 2011. This year's top winning colleges include Rhode Island School of Design, Montserrat College of Art, School of Visual Arts, Academy of Art Univeristy and San José State University.

Also awarded during the Opening Reception are this year's Distinguished Educators in the Arts. Gil Ashby of the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan will be honored with the Contemporary Distinguished Educator in the Arts Award. John LaGatta of the Art Center School in Pasadena, California will be awarded posthumously. This prestigious award is presented to educators who have made a strong impact on illustration as both
a teacher and an artist.
