"Winners of Soho Photo's 16th Annual National Photography Competition" Exhibition

Soho Photo Gallery presents its July exhibition will feature the top three winners of the gallery's 16th annual juried National Photography Competition. The show's distinguished juror, Lyle Rexer, who is a columnist for Photograph magazine, a teacher at the School of Visual Arts, and a well-known curator, selected these photographs, as well as 34 other images, to be in this year's exhibition. In previous years, this competition has drawn entries from all over the United States and 2011 was no exception. 305 photographers located from Massachusetts to Alaska submitted more than 2,000 photographs. The juror ultimately chose work from 26 photographers to be in July's exhibition.
After making his selections, Lyle Rexer said:
...This year's entries demonstrated the axiom that anyone can take at least one good picture. I have rather valued courage, determination and a willingness to push visual conventions in order to fashion a body of work. Perhaps most important, I have sought in all my selections images we have not seen before, work that is personal, occasionally quirky, and above all imaginative....
The top three National Competition winners are:
First Place: David Todd: "Still Photography Series," Chappaqua, NY
Second Place: Merrilee Luke-Ebbeler: "Ohio Series," Cincinnati, OH
Third Place: Corinne Schulze: "Digital Globe Series," Brooklyn, NY
There were 10 Honorable Mentions.
