This event has ended.

In May 2011, a group of artists from a diverse range of backgrounds converged in New York City to collaborate on an art project called ‘Store Buyout, the art of convenience’. A project that saw the entire contents of a Manhattan Bodega bought in one single purchase, then re-packaged and repurposed as art.

The group of five artists included Kyle MacDonald, famous for his One Red Paperclip trading epic, Hal Kirkland director/ creative director of the internationally acclaimed music video ‘Hibi No Neiro; Gary Lachance – Co-founder of the DDP (Decentralized Dance Party), Jody Gnant – singer/songwriter and one of the people Kyle traded with for the Red Paperclip project, and Matt Fidler (Fiddy) known for his 50 states in 50 days journey with Kyle’s brother Scott.

The convenience store chosen for the project was Hercules’ Fancy Grocery.

The Manhattan bodega was unanimously agreed upon after discovering Hercules’ was at risk of losing his store and if anyone deserved a break,it was one of West Village’s favorite personalities.

The items have now been transformed into conceptual art and will be available for purchase at storebuyout.com or from their New York City gallery, aptly titled ‘Bodega Boutique, the art of convenience’.
