This event has ended.

Cavin-Morris Gallery is pleased to present its Summer Group exhibition in which we look at the best of some of our recent shows and some directions we will be exploring in the future.  While still developing and adding to our department of Art Brut and self-taught artists from around the world, we are also working with maverick trained artists who create away from the mainstream.
Keith Goodhart, Jerry Wagner, Josef Hofer, Yukio Miyashita, Anna Zemánková, Chelo Gonzalez Amezcua, and Jim Watkinson give a taste of this range.

We are also further exploring a step we took when we began showing Contemporary Ceramists like Tim Rowan, Jeff Shapiro, Robert Fornell, Yohei Nishimura, Emogayu, Ryoji Koie, Deirdre Hawthorne, and others.  We continue looking toward sculpture with the New Basketry of John Garrett, Debora Muhl, Lizzie Fairey, Lissa Hunter, Jerry Bleem, Charissa Brock, and Polly Adams Sutton.

To these names we are pleased to add Shane Keena, Akira Satake, Judith Duff and Rudolph Serra in ceramics, Dona Anderson in New Basketry, and sculptors in wood: George Peterson, Christian Burchard, and Minoru Ohira.  All this work may reference tradition but it also explores a more conceptual craft where utilitarian function may be a coincidence rather than an intention of the artist.  Process becomes a dominant factor.  Craft becomes a word of process on the way to Art.   We expect this part of Cavin-Morris to continue growing placing emphasis on work that pushes the envelope of functionality while still referencing materials and traditions, but also moves into the arena of contemporary art.

We are introducing the work of Australian artist Scott Marr who takes pyrography to a place never seen before using colors made from jungle plants to create intricate drawings burned into a paper or canvas surface.
