Sous Les Etoiles Gallery introduces Remember When, a series of new photographs by Jin-Ya Huang, her second solo exhibition with the gallery. Playing on the edge while maintaining the highest precision in her abstract, defocused imagery is what makes Jin-Ya Huang's art so special. With modesty and elegance, she shows the viewer how her roots are the breeding ground of her inspiration.

The photographer gathers memories in order to save them from loss and to overcome her past. She leads us through her own childhood, her fear of oblivion and the symbolic events of her life. "I wanted this series of work to turn into a level of timeless subconscious...that the first look of the image becomes so familiar to the viewer; perhaps he/she recognizes it as his or her own memory. I've witnessed and personnalized these souvenirs that can create an empty/fulfilling feeling, just as life often does."

"Remember When..." is a familiar expression often used with people we have not met in a long time, a line that always prefaces conversations, monologues or stories, which could become timeless. "It's like an aspect of an oral tradition" said Huang. These souvenirs then may surface as happiness, or perhaps bitterness, and nostalgia. This exhibition includes four sequences experienced as an assemblage of moments, showing a gradual integration of her American way of life while still questioning the foundations of her family ties.
