The exhibition will consist of recent drawings and oil paintings that vividly reconstruct the rhythms of daily urban life with gestural brushwork and heightened color.
In these nearly two dozen works, the artist uncovers the visual surprises in seemingly ordinary aspects of street life. Moments that catch her eye—a young woman braiding her boyfriend's hair on a stoop at night, a man cleaning the window of his coffee shop, waiters having their dinner at closing time—turn into pictorial dramas that illuminate human interactions amidst urban settings. All these events are poignantly revealed by the particular light at hand, whether the direct sunlight of mid-day, or the sodium vapor light at night.
