Sarah McKenzie "Void"

This event has ended.

Combining imagery of anonymous hotel rooms, nondescript city views and under-construction memorial sites, the spaces in McKenzie’s second showing evoke a feeling of emptiness and wanting [longing]. McKenzie utilized a more subdued color palette, in hand with minimal and sparse compositions, in both large-scale and more intimately sized works. The solitary, devoid [almost vacant] atmosphere in McKenzie’s work is further heightened by obscured vantage points, whereby we encounter each scene through hotel windows and curtains. This combination of transparency and opacity hints at absence and loss, resulting in a body of work charged with emotions so immense that it envelops the viewer in a deafening silence.
