Critical distance is a difficult thing to achieve for any artist. It is no less arduous for a curator. When presented with a host of diverse and rich art practices, as is the case in this exhibition, taking a step back becomes key for measured analysis. We harp on this here because, like these artists, we are coming from the graduate school environment
where it often seems impossible to find the space and perspective necessary to evolve our respective practices; rather than simply grasping at universal themes, our methodology aims to activate critical distance. Understanding how each practice unfolds within the larger schemata is invaluable. To that end, in this exhibition we have focused our attention on each practice, including our own curatorial one and offer a range of takes that rub up against each other in service of a wickedly divisive whole.
