Vered Sivan "Till Birth do us Part"
Rooster Gallery
This event has ended.
On the gallery's main floor Sivan will present “Plasma” where she merges installation and performance into a single event. For several hours, a model lays on the floor covered with one singular synthetic thread. In doing so, the artist is redefining spaces in relation to the body and redefining the body as a space. The relationships formed explore the transitions and the transformations of human experience throughout life. “Plasma” creates metamorphoses and merges ends with beginnings, thereby establishing a close relationship between death and birth. "Plasma" will be performed every Saturday afternoon for the duration of the show.
Downstairs, Sivan will present “Contact Point,” an installation that also expresses the relationship between body and space. While “Plasma” expresses the microscopic view, “Contact Point” expresses the macro. The room and domestic objects will be covered by thousands of yards of dental floss, connected to the walls and the floor by hundreds of thousands of staples, thus changing the space's architecture and giving it a new morphology.
The space becomes inviting but by covering found domestic furniture with dental floss Sivan enhances the viewer's sense of displacement and the possibility of performance. The room becomes a space where you once were, but where you can no longer return.
Vered Sivan was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, holds a BFA by the Tel Aviv University and a MFA by the School of Visual Arts of New York.
