Vicki DaSilva "REVERB"
Able Fine Art NY Gallery
This event has ended.
Able Fine Art NY Gallery presents "REVERB", the solo exhibition of a light graffiti artist, Vicki DaSilva. The exhibition features light graffiti that paints text and bands of color in a new series of photographs responding to the here-and-now. Using an abandoned silk factory as her framework, DaSilva expands on a largely overlooked tradition that began in 1949 when Picasso collaborated with LIFE photographer, Gjon Mili, to create a series of light drawings.
Vicki DaSilva takes the medium of light painting to a larger, monumental scale by utilizing architectural structures to create both abstractions and graffiti that portray thick bands of color appearing either as singular, side-by-side or woven together while providing a flash of socio-political commentary. Anchored firmly in the moment, DaSilva’s art contributes to the expanding global reach that light graffiti now has in art communities around the world.
REVERB integrates the documentation of performance with photography. This new selection of installation based, site-specific light paintings are made with single-frame time exposures shot at night, live and on location, with either bare or patterned tube lamps. As the first artist to use text within light painting since the early 1980s, Vicki DaSilva makes her work local, vibrant and contemporary.
