David Chang's art merges eastern and western calligraphy with a philosophical pursuit pertaining specifically to text based work. Using tools and techniques from western calligraphy (the Italian humanist documents, the German expressionist stroke and the English roundhand), he has spent the last ten years developing his unique style or stroke. He has pursued his art education by seeking out and studying with western calligraphy masters over the years; most notably, John Stevens, Brody Neuenschwander and Denis Brown.
He was born in Seoul, Korea in 1971. This past fall, he was a part of a group exhibition with the Society of Scribes at the National Arts Club in New York. He has also been involved with several group exhibitions internationally.
