Matthew Farina "Recent Collages"

This event has ended.

Somewhere between chromophilic landscape and geometric abstraction, we find Matthew Farina’s newest body of collage works. These tactile pieces are made with an embrace of improvisation that has allowed Farina to create compelling spatial arrangements. Exploring balance, hue and implied light, the artist's efforts are grounded in a rigorous cultivation of materials; paper scraps, recycled drawings and colored tape. As in most of his recent work there is still a predominance of white space revealed that mediates small epiphanies of saturated color.

Farina has exhibited his paintings and works on paper most recently at Sears Peyton Gallery (New York), Sampson Projects (Boston), SOMA Gallery (Cape May) and The Rosenfeld Gallery (Philadelphia). In addition to his studio practice, Farina is an avid art writer and curator. Here at The Painting Center, he recently curated the exhibits Philadelphia Painters and Grey Matter. Farina lives in Brooklyn, NY.
