His recent figurative oil paintings have taken on a richer textural feeling as well as more depth of color to convey the “eternal elements”, and in this show landscape is the primary subject. His evolving structures and experiments with light have given this new work an added extra dimension. Jessel's trademark skewing of perspective relationships also give his work a galvanized modernist abstract sensibility, resulting in paintings delivering a combination of visual illusion and the artistic experience.
