Artist Statement:
My work strives to portray the urban environment as an engine that fuels the social blooming and decay of humanity. The city, a monster of flesh and industry, is an uncontrollable and ever evolving monument of mankind.

It is the city’s constant momentum, acting as a catalyst, that drives us to an undetermined future. It is free of any and all accountability. We sit in its passenger seat, yet we are held responsible for where it takes us.

In the art world, every culture has icons and symbols that establish their identity and characterize their history. For my America, I see bright lights and a big city.

The most profound landmarks in my memory culminate themselves into a city skyline. I was born in Chicago, and spent the majority of my life in New Jersey. I was captivated at an early age by the overwhelming power and mystery that would glow from the neighboring cities of New York and Philadelphia.

I see the city as a wilderness of metal and technology. The formidable skyscapers stand tall like an electric forest that is as enticing as it is threatening. It is the building’s form and repetitive nature in the urban landscape that has made it a major symbol in my work. The city’s recurring themes of enterprise, windows, automobiles, and smog are all images that have become strong ingredients in my imagery. I use printmaking to credit mass media and paint as a covering to reference humanity’s need for change, both of which are invaluable tools in my process.
